Communities

Southwest Florida is the region along the southwest gulf coast of Florida. Although definitions of the region do vary, we consider its boundaries to be south of the Tampa Bay area, starting at St. Pete, west of Lake Okeechobee, and then mostly north of the Everglades. This area then includes Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, and Collier counties.

Schools and Enrollment
In many communities your child’s school is determined by the neighborhood you live in. Lee County and other Florida areas have taken this idea and expanded your neighborhood into zones with an open-enrollment system. Lee County Public Schools is the ninth-largest district in Florida and America’s 37th-largest school district – and one of the largest, fully-accredited school districts in the nation. We proudly educate approximately 85,000 students in grades K-12, with thousands more adult learners. We are one of the county’s largest employers, with approximately 10,000 full- and part-time employees.
